In 2002 the registration committee approved the passing of parent verifiaction to both partents starting January 1, 2004. The DNA schedule below will follow the same guidlines as the AQHA. A schedule will speeds up the parentage verification process by instituting a schedule for mandatory DNA typing of mares/stallion and parentage verification of their foals.
A genitic marker report must be on file with the AAHIA for any AQHA or APHA used for breeding American Azteca Horse's. This is required on all AQHA or APHA foaled on & after January 1, 1989.
Parentage verification through DNA testing underscores the AAHIA's commitment to ensureing the integrity of the breed and establishes positive identification. DNA testing also will help build a better understanding of certain genetic disorders and may prevent their being passed on to future generations.
